Diaz who played National youth football for Mexico and the US joined Connection three weeks ago as a free agent. His first run out for Connection was as a second half substitute in last week’s 2-1 defeat against Pumas UNAM in CONCACAF Champions’ League Group D action.

Diaz previously played alongside W Connection goalkeeper Jan Michael Williams at Ferencvarosi TC in the eastern division of the Hungarian National Championship II who recommended the Mexican striker to coach Stuart Charles Fevrier.

His 40th minute strike on Tuesday in the Digicel Pro League made sure of maximum points for Fevrier’s side after Colombian defender Eder Gilmar Aras had already had Connection 1-0 in the 20th minute.

The victory pushed Connection into third from fourth on the League standings with 40 points and atop the Big Six standings with 6 points after Round Three Match Day Two.

Joe Public remain top of the League with 44 points, closely followed by Caledonia AIA of Morvant/Laventille who registered a 1-0 win over Ma Pau SC.

Striker Keon Ewards took his League tally to 16 goals in the 20th minute giving Caledonia important points in their League hopes.

Caledonia are now one point behind Joe Public on the League table and third on the Big Six table with 3 points.

Joe Public’s scheduled Round Three Match Day Two match against (now) fourth positioned San Juan Jabloteh has been rescheduled to Tuesday 20 October from 6pm at the Marvin Lee Stadium. Jabloteh who are yet to start the Big Six stage of the League champion ship are with 39 points.
